A HISTORY OF MODERN CLOTH NAPPIES

Cloth nappies have come a long way over recent generations. In 1951 Marion Donovan was granted patent for her Boaters, an original cloth nappy design made from parachute nylon and button snaps for closure. This was a major improvement on the previous iterations of simple flat sections of cotton fabric fastened by safety pins. The Boater was initially fashioned from Marions shower curtain and revolutionised cloth nappy design. We now credit Marion for the invention of the modern cloth nappy. Interestingly Marion is also credited with many of the innovations that lead to the eventual invention of the disposable nappy.

In the 1960 disposable nappies rose in popularity and continued to dominate until the late 1980's when concerns of environmental impact took root. Popularity of cloth nappies rose across the 1990's and options broadened as more cloth nappy companies popped up. In 1999 the one size fits most nappy was invented and soon after in the year 2000 PUL was in the mix.

Fast forward to today where up to 20% of families use modern cloth nappies in some capacity and there are multiple options available.

ABOUT ANGUS THE LABELS MODERN CLOTH NAPPIES

Angus The Labels modern cloth nappies are One Size Fits Most (OSFM), Hybrid and All In Two (AI2).

Err What?!

Ok, so they're size adjustable and are designed to fit babies from approximately 3.5kg to 20kg. They are hybrid design which means the inserts can either be stuffed into the cover/shell in the pocket that lines the shell or they can be simply snapped onto a press stud that sits at the back of the nappy under the waist line. Finally, they are All In Two, which means that the nappy is in two pieces. That is, the inserts separate from the outer shell. Angus The Label nappies actually come with two inserts so technically they're All In Three but let's take it easy.

This design enables you to buy just one nappy for your baby that will fit them from newborn to toilet trained and you can use the same nappies for siblings of different sizes simultaneously saving time, effort and money. Inserts can be quickly snapped into the cover for speedy assembly or stuffed into the moisture wicking pocket to keep baby extra dry. Separating parts also enables for faster drying times therefore you can own less.

They're truly the most versatile nappy!
